Embedded Systems Interfacing for Engineers Using the Freescale Hcs08 Microcontroller I: Assembly Language Programming

Embedded Systems Interfacing for Engineers Using the Freescale Hcs08 Microcontroller I: Assembly Language Programming

Douglas Summerville "Embedded Systems Interfacing for Engineers Using the Freescale Hcs08 Microcontroller I: Assembly Language Programming"

Morgan & Claypool | 2009-06-15 | ISBN: 1608450058 | 120 pages | PDF | 1.1 MB

The vast majority of computers in use today are encapsulated within other systems. In contrast to general-purpose computers that run an endless selection of software, these embedded computers are often programmed for a very specific, low-level and often mundane purpose. Low-end microcontrollers, costing as little as one dollar, are often employed by engineers in designs that utilize only a small fraction of the processing capability of the device because it is either more cost-effective than selecting an application-specific part or because programmability offers custom functionality not otherwise available. Embedded Systems Interfacing for Engineers using the Freescale HCS08 Microcontroller is a two-part book intended to provide an introduction to hardware and software interfacing for engineers. Building from a comprehensive introduction of fundamental computing concepts, the book suitable for a first course in computer organization for electrical or computer engineering students with a minimal background in digital logic and programming. In addition, this book can be valuable as a reference for engineers new to the Freescale HCS08 family of microcontrollers. The HCS08 processor architecture used in the book is relatively simple to learn, powerful enough to apply towards a wide-range of interfacing tasks, and accommodates breadboard prototyping in a laboratory using freely available and low-cost tools. In Part I: Assembly Language Programming, the programmer's model of the HSC08 family of processors is introduced. This part leads the reader from basic concepts up to implementing basic software control structures in assembly language. Instead of focusing on large-scale programs, the emphasis is on implementing small algorithms necessary to accomplish some of the more common tasks expected in small embedded systems. The first part prepares the reader with the programming skills necessary to write device drivers in and perform basic input/output processing Part II, whose emphasis is on hardware interfacing concepts. Table of Contents: Introduction to Microcomputer Organization / Programmer's Model of the HCS08 CPU / HCS08 Assembly Language Programming.

Introduction to Microcontrollers: Architecture, Programming, and Interfacing for the Motorola 68HC12

Introduction to Microcontrollers: Architecture, Programming, and Interfacing for the Motorola 68HC12
Introduction to Microcontrollers: Architecture, Programming, and Interfacing for the Motorola 68HC12 (Academic Press Series in Engineering): G. Jack Lipovski

Academic Press | ISBN: 0124518311 | October 15, 1999 | PDF (OCR) | 394 pages | 28.20 Mb

Introduction to Microcontrollers is a comprehensive introductory text/reference for electrical and computer engineers, students, and even hobbyists who have little experience in a high-level programming language. The book helps them understand how a typical microcontroller executes assembly language instructions and addressing modes on microprocessors. The book shows how to program with C++ and compile assembly language statements. The book utilizes the new 16-bit microcontroller, the Motorola 68Hc12, as the primary example. This "chip" replaces the very popular 8-bit microcontroller, the 68Hc11, as the leading microprocessor for a wide variety of applications and as a core tool for teaching engineering students. This new microcontroller is expected to be popular in industry because of its low cost per unit, low power consumption, and high processing speed.

We are currently entering ah era of developed parallelism. Parallelism provides the high performance needed in science and engineering, the responsiveness required in real-time control, the fault-tolerance necessary for high reliability systems, etc. These capabilities become available for use in an increasing number of applications but offer new challenges to the system designer and programmer.

The advanced research in parallel computing technologies as well as the development of high industrial quality products are now especially important for the USSR trying to do perestroika's steps to be tightly integrated with the world community. We believe that increasing research contacts and scientific cooperation is one of the first steps to take. So, in spite of the considerable number of international conferences and workshops on parallel systems, we decided to establish a Soviet series on parallel computing technologies (the PaCT series). As a result you have in your hands the proceedings of the PaCT-91 Conference, which is organized by the Computing Centre of the Siberian Division of the USSR Academy of Sciences in cooperation with the Soviet Parallel Computing Association, and held in Novosibirsk in September 1991. This is the first time such a big international conference on parallel computing technologies is taking place in the USSR. The aim of the conference is to give an overview of new developments, applications and trends in the field of parallelism.

“This book is intended to provide you with everything you need to know to create and deploy a microcontroller-based 802.11b wireless network. You read it correctly, I did indeed say everything you need to know. I’ve spent the last year being rejected, ignored and hung up on. When I wasn’t being subjected to any of the aforementioned disrespectful acts, I was being lied to, promised to and conveniently forgotten. Some of the folks holding the 802.11b Holy Grail had no scruples and performed all of the despicable acts I’ve mentioned against my person. All of that angst was directed at me (or rather not directed at me) because I wanted to learn how to implement 802.11b in the world of microcontrollers. Well, I have seen the 802.11b light and I am here to spread the word to all in microcontrollerdom. 802.11b communication with inexpensive off-the-shelf microcontrollers is possible for I have done it and you will do it too...”

Making Things Talk: Practical Methods for Connecting Physical Objects

Tom Igoe "Making Things Talk: Practical Methods for Connecting Physical Objects"

ISBN 0596510519 | Make Books | September 2007 | 428 pages | PDF | English | 62 MB

Building electronic projects that interact with the physical world is good fun. But when devices that you've built start to talk to each other, things really start to get interesting. Through a series of simple projects, you'll learn how to get your creations to communicate with one another by forming networks of smart devices that carry on conversations with you and your environment. Whether you need to plug some sensors in your home to the Internet or create a device that can interact wirelessly with other creations, Making Things Talk explains exactly what you need.

This book is perfect for people with little technical training but a lot of interest. Maybe you're a science teacher who wants to show students how to monitor weather conditions at several locations at once, or a sculptor who wants to stage a room of choreographed mechanical sculptures. Making Things Talk demonstrates that once you figure out how objects communicate -- whether they're microcontroller-powered devices, email programs, or networked databases -- you can get them to interact.

Each chapter in contains instructions on how to build working projects that help you do just that. You will:

Make your pet's bed send you email

Make your own seesaw game controller that communicates over the Internet

Learn how to use ZigBee and Bluetooth radios to transmit sensor data wirelessly

Set up communication between microcontrollers, personal computers, and web servers using three easy-to-program, open source environments: Arduino/Wiring, Processing, and PHP.

Write programs to send data across the Internet based on physical activity in your home, office, or backyard

And much more

With a little electronics know-how, basic (not necessarily in BASIC) programming skills, a couple of inexpensive microcontroller kits and some network modules to make them communicate using Ethernet, ZigBee, and Bluetooth, you can get started on these projects right away. With Making Things Talk, the possibilities are practically endless.

Product Description:
This is the introduction to PLCs for which baffled students, technicians and managers have been waiting. In this straightforward, easy-to-read guide, Bill Bolton has kept the jargon to a minimum, considered all the programming methods in the standard IEC 1131-3 - in particular ladder programming, and presented the subject in a way that is not device specific to ensure maximum applicability to courses in electronics and control systems.

Now in its fourth edition, this best-selling text has been expanded with increased coverage of industrial systems and PLCs and more consideration has been given to IEC 1131-3 and all the programming methods in the standard. The new edition brings the book fully up to date with the current developments in PLCs, describing new and important applications such as PLC use in communications (e.g. Ethernet an extremely popular system), and safety in particular proprietary emergency stop relays (now appearing in practically every PLC based system).

This is an absolutely great book. At over 1000 pages it's a real opus - covering everything from ordinary differential equations, linear algebra, vector calculus, fourier analysis, complex analysis and probability. It's exceptionally well written - with plenty of clear examples, diagrams and exercises - constantly cross referencing back to the particular idea or formula that an example is employing. It presupposes only elementary calculus - and so makes an excellent university textbook to accompany study, or as a self-study book to further your maths knowledge.
I wish all maths books were this well written
